About Solidago juncea Aiton
Solidago juncea Aiton, commonly called early goldenrod, plume golden-rod, or yellow top, is a North American herbaceous perennial plant species in the family Asteraceae. It is native to eastern and central Canada, as well as eastern and central United States. Its distribution ranges from Nova Scotia west to Manitoba and Minnesota, and south to northern Georgia and northern Arkansas. A small number of isolated populations of this species also occur in Louisiana and Oklahoma. This perennial herb grows up to 120 cm (4 feet) tall, and spreads via underground rhizomes. The leaves located at the base of the plant can reach up to 30 cm (1 foot) in length, and leaves become progressively smaller higher up the stem. A single Solidago juncea plant can produce up to 450 small yellow flower heads arranged in a large, showy cluster. This species is frequently cultivated in gardens as an ornamental plant.
