About Solenopsis amblychila Wheeler, 1915

Solenopsis amblychila Wheeler, 1915 is a species of ant that belongs to the fire ant genus Solenopsis, and it is native to the southwestern United States. This species can tolerate very dry conditions, though it can also be found in well-watered lawns. It typically nests in soil, or underneath rocks and pieces of wood. A distinguishing characteristic of Solenopsis amblychila is its pale golden or yellow body coloration. Because of this shared golden appearance, it is often mistaken for another golden-colored ant species, Solenopsis aurea. Worker ants of this species are polymorphic, and colonies contain both major and minor worker castes.
