About Solanum nemophilum F.Muell.
Solanum nemophilum F.Muell. is a shrub that grows up to 1.5 meters (4 feet 11 inches) tall. It is densely covered in star-shaped hairs, and is rarely prickly, though prickles sometimes appear on its branches. Its leaves range from elliptic to lance-shaped, and are rarely oval; they measure 3โ6 cm (1.2โ2.4 in) long and 1.5โ2.5 cm (0.59โ0.98 in) wide, with smooth edges. Both the upper and lower leaf surfaces bear soft, fine star-shaped hairs, and the two surfaces differ slightly in color. Leaves are borne on petioles 0.5โ1 cm (0.20โ0.39 in) long. Flowers grow in clusters of 1 to 4, on a peduncle that reaches up to 5 mm (0.20 in) long, with individual flowers attached to a pedicel around 5 mm (0.20 in) long. The corolla is star-shaped, 15โ25 mm (0.59โ0.98 in) in diameter, and purple or bluish in color, with shallowly fused lobes. The calyx is 5โ8 mm (0.20โ0.31 in) long, with individual lobes 2โ5 mm (0.079โ0.197 in) long. Flowering occurs mainly from spring to summer. The fruit is a red berry 5โ8 mm (0.20โ0.31 in) in diameter, and is mostly covered by the calyx lobes. This Solanum species grows on stony outcrops, in south-eastern Queensland and the Gibraltar Range in New South Wales.
