About Solanum citrullifolium A.Br.

Solanum citrullifolium A.Br. is a flowering plant species belonging to the Solanaceae family, which is the nightshade family. Its common name is watermelon nightshade, chosen because its leaves have a resemblance to the leaves of a watermelon plant. This species is a white-stemmed shrub that produces purple, star-shaped flowers. It is native to the southern United States, and is cultivated in home gardens as an ornamental plant. Solanum citrullifolium should not be confused with the similarly named melonleaf nightshade, which is a completely different species called S. heterodoxum.
