About Soehrensia candicans (Gillies ex Salm-Dyck) Schlumpb.
Soehrensia candicans (basionym Echinopsis candicans) has a shrubby growth form. Individual stems reach up to 60 cm (24 inches) tall, and an entire mature plant can grow as wide as 3 m (10 ft) across. Stems are light green, grow up to 14 cm (5.5 inches) in diameter, and have 9 to 11 low ribs. Large white areoles are spaced 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 inches) apart along the ribs, and each areole produces brownish-yellow spines. Central spines grow up to 10 cm (3.9 inches) long, while radial spines reach a maximum length of only 4 cm (1.6 inches). Its large fragrant white flowers open at night; these flowers can be up to 19 cm (7.5 inches) across and 18–23 cm (7.1–9.1 inches) long. This species is native to northern Argentina. It is widespread across the Argentine provinces of Mendoza, San Juan, Córdoba, La Rioja, La Pampa, Buenos Aires, and San Luis, growing in the foothills of the Andes and the Sierras of the Pampas at altitudes between 100 and 2000 meters.
