About Soehrensia bruchii (Britton & Rose) Backeb.
Soehrensia bruchii, also previously classified as Echinopsis bruchii, usually grows alone. Its depressed globular dark green shoots can reach 20โ30 cm, or up to 50 cm, in diameter, and grow 50โ70 cm (20โ28 in) tall. It has 15 to 50 low, distinct ribs that are somewhat inflated or bumpy between its areoles. The white areoles bear 2 to 4 central spines, and 8 to 10 yellowish or brown radial spines. Deep red flowers grow near the top of the shoots, open during the day, and measure 4 to 5 cm (1.6 to 2.0 in) in both length and diameter. This species is native to northwest Argentina, where it grows in the provinces of Catamarca, Jujuy, La Rioja, Mendoza, Salta, and San Juan, at elevations between 1,700 and 3,500 m (5,600 to 11,500 ft).
