About Smelowskia americana (Regel & Herder) Rydb.
Smelowskia americana (Regel & Herder) Rydb. is a perennial rhizomatous herb. It typically forms a grayish-green mat, with more or less hairy stems that grow between 1.5 centimeters and approximately 20 centimeters tall at maximum. Its basal leaves are ovate or obovate, measuring 0.4 to 10 centimeters long and 1 to 15 millimeters wide, with either smooth margins or pinnate lobing. These basal leaves grow on petioles that are roughly the same length as the leaf blade. Leaves growing on the flowering stem have a similar shape and structure but are smaller, arranged alternately, and borne on short petioles. A solitary flower head grows on a slender stem that is either upright or angled upward. Each flower has four petals, which are white, or occasionally light purple, and measure 4 to 8 millimeters long. It also has six stamens that bear yellow anthers.
