About Sitochroa chortalis Grote, 1874

Sitochroa chortalis, commonly known as the dimorphic sitochroa moth, is a species of moth belonging to the family Crambidae. This species was described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1873. It is distributed across North America, with recorded occurrences ranging from Nova Scotia to southern British Columbia, and extending south to New Jersey, Arizona, and northern California. Its habitat includes grassland and prairie regions. Adult moths are active in flight from mid-May to mid-July. The larvae of Sitochroa chortalis feed on Amaranthus retroflexus.
