Sisyrinchium platense I.M.Johnst. is a herbaceous perennial plant. It grows from fleshy roots and produces many thin leaves, and normally reaches around 20 centimeters in height. This species blooms in spring, and produces a showy display of flowers. Like other species in the genus Sisyrinchium, its flowers have six petal-like tepals. The tepals are bluish violet with darker veins. Flowers grow from the top of the stems and are accompanied by green flat bracts. Its fruits are capsules that contain many small seeds.
