About Sisyrinchium micranthum Cav.
Sisyrinchium micranthum Cav., commonly known by the common names annual blue-eyed grass, blue pigroot, fairy stars, and striped rush-leaf, is a wildflower species. It is a grass-like member of the iris family, Iridaceae. It is native to Mexico, Central America, and South America, and is widely naturalized in other regions around the world. Its flowers measure between 10 and 20 mm in diameter. Most often, its flowers are white with blue to purple centers, but they may also bloom in other colors including yellow, pink, or violet. After flowering, the plant produces rounded brown capsules 3 to 8 mm in size, which enclose dark brown seeds. Across much of the species' range, particularly in the southeastern United States, this species was previously known under the synonym Sisyrinchium rosulatum. This older synonym still frequently appears in outdated, unupdated descriptions of the plant.
