About Siler montanum Crantz

Siler montanum Crantz, commonly called laserwort, is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the family Apiaceae. This robust perennial grows between 30 and 100 centimetres (12 and 39 inches) tall. It has alternate, bipinnate leaves, and bears compound umbels of white five-stellate flowers from June through August. This species is native to central and southern Europe, where it grows in the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Apennine Mountains, and the Iberian Mountains. It grows in gorges and on rocky slopes, at elevations ranging from 800 to 2,250 metres (2,620 to 7,380 feet). Its roots and seeds can be used as spices, and they have historically been used to make gruit or beer.
