Silene littorea Brot. is a low-growing annual plant that reaches a height of approximately 15 cm. The entire plant is covered in sticky hairs called trichomes. This species is native to Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. Its populations have been observed to be declining in Spain. It is rare in Gibraltar, where it is restricted to eastern sandy slopes. Silene littorea grows in sandy soils in coastal areas, and it is most often found in coastal sand dunes.
