About Silene dichotoma Ehrh.

Silene dichotoma Ehrh. is a species of flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae, commonly called forked catchfly. This species is native to Eurasia, and is also found in other temperate regions around the world, including parts of North America, where it grows as a weed in disturbed habitats. It is an annual herb that can grow up to 80 centimeters tall. It produces lance-shaped leaves: lower stem leaves reach up to 8 centimeters long, while leaves higher on the stem are smaller. Each flower is enclosed in an inflated calyx made of sepals, marked with ten visible veins. The calyx is open at its tip, exposing five white to red petals. Each petal has two lobes, and may sometimes take on a curled form.
