Silene apetala Willd. is a plant species belonging to the carnation family, Caryophyllaceae. It was first described by Carl Ludwig Willdenow. This species is native to regions stretching from countries across the Mediterranean, through Northern Somalia, to Pakistan. It is classified as an invasive species in France and in Australia, where it is commonly found in the drier areas of South Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria.
