About Sideridis turbida Esper, 1790

Sideridis turbida Esper, 1790 has a wingspan of 36–44 mm. Its forewings are drab grey, suffused with brown, except along the costa, inner margin, and within an oblique pale fascia-shaped submarginal area. The pale submarginal fascia throws off pale teeth along its outer edge. A long black streak extends from the base below the cell; the median vein is white, with only a small white spot at the end of the cell and a minute black point above it. The veins are whitish, with black terminal streaks in the intervals between them. The hindwing is dark greyish and fuscous.

The ab. suffusa Tutt variant is a melanic brown form that is common in Britain, and occurs rarely in the Alps. The ab. ochracea Tutt variant is a brownish ochreous form, also apparently rare on the European continent.
