About Sicalis flaveola (Linnaeus, 1766)

The scientific name of this species is Sicalis flaveola (Linnaeus, 1766). Males are bright yellow with an orange crown. This orange crown distinguishes the male from most other yellow finches; the only exception is the orange-fronted yellow finch. Females are typically harder to identify, and are generally just a slightly duller version of the male. However, females of the southern subspecies S. f. pelzelni are olive-brown with heavy dark streaks.
