About Sibon nebulatus (Linnaeus, 1758)

This species, Sibon nebulatus, has body color that ranges from grey to brown, marked with irregular dark brown ring-shaped crossbands. These crossbands are bordered by fine, irregular beige spots. The belly color varies from white to beige, and is speckled with small dark brown dots. The labial scale located on the upper lip behind the eye is enlarged. In the cloud forests of northwestern Ecuador, Sibon nebulatus is frequently mistaken for another snake species, the Elegant Snail-Eater (Dipsas elegans). The two species can be told apart: Dipsas elegans has pairs of narrow vertical bars with a paler bar between each pair, while Sibon nebulatus has unpaired vertical bars.
