This species, commonly known as Townsend's warbler, has the following physical description: it has a yellow face with a black stripe across its cheeks that extends into an ear patch, a thin pointed bill, and two white wing bars. Its upperparts are olive, with black streaks on the back and flanks, and it has a white belly. Adult males have a black cap, black throat, and yellow lower breast; females have a dark cap and a yellow throat. Immature birds resemble females, with dark green caps and cheeks.
