This grass species is native to Asia. It is a summer annual grass: new plants grow from seeds in spring, and produce seeds in late summer or fall. Giant foxtails prefer compacted soils that are high in nitrogen and phosphorus. This plant becomes more competitive against crops as soil pH increases.
