About Serruria florida (Thunb.) Knight

Serruria florida is a flowering plant species belonging to the Proteaceae family, and it is endemic to South Africa. Its common names are blushing bride and pride of Franschhoek. This species reaches 0.8 to 1.5 metres in height and 0.5 metres in width. It has fine, dissected leaves, and produces white to pink flowers from July to October within its native range. It grows naturally in the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, located in Cape Province. This species prefers a well-drained site in full sun and can tolerate dry conditions. It can be propagated from cuttings or seed, though propagation from seed is often difficult. Serruria florida is cultivated for the cut flower trade, and is also grown as an ornamental plant.
