About Senna tora (L.) Roxb.
This entry addresses the Cassia tora originally described by Linnaeus, which later authors most commonly reassigned to the taxon Senna obtusifolia. Senna tora, originally published by Linnaeus under the name Cassia tora, is a plant species belonging to the family Fabaceae and subfamily Caesalpinioideae. Its specific epithet comes from its Sinhala name tora (තෝර). This species grows wild across most of the tropics and is classified as a weed in many regions. Its native range is Central America. The most common English common names for it are sickle senna and sickle wild sensitive-plant. Additional common names include sickle pod, tora, coffee pod, and foetid cassia. Senna tora is frequently confused with Senna obtusifolia, which is also called Chinese senna or sickle pod. Senna tora is considered an invasive species in New Caledonia.
