Senna sophera (L.) Roxb. is a glabrous shrub or small tree that grows to around 3 meters in height. Its compound leaves bear 8 to 12 pairs of leaflets, which are acute and tapering. It produces yellow flowers arranged in corymbose racemes. This species is widespread across tropical and subtropical regions of the world. According to Plants of the World Online, it is considered native to the Caribbean (including Aruba, the Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, the Leeward Islands, the Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands), Central America (including Belize and Panama), and Guyana in northern South America.
