About Senegalia gilliesii (Steud.) Seigler & Ebinger
This plant, scientifically known as Senegalia gilliesii (Steud.) Seigler & Ebinger, grows as a tree or large bush that typically reaches up to 5 meters in height. It tends to lose its leaves gradually during cold periods or drought, rather than shedding all leaves at once. Its bark is gray, and older, thicker trunks develop cracks and grooves. A small spur grows at each joint, ending in two sharp, curved thorns that point backwards. Its leaves are twice-divided, giving them a fine, feathery appearance. Small white flowers bloom in summer, grouped tightly into round, head-shaped clusters. This species is distributed across northern Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It is commonly found on slopes and plains within dry scrub, savanna, and subtropical woodlands.
