Senecio glossanthus (Sond.) Belcher grows as an erect annual herb. It can reach a maximum height of 70 centimetres (28 inches), though it typically grows no taller than 30 centimetres (12 inches). The plant is sparsely hairy, and has few branches outside of its branched inflorescence. It produces yellow flowers. This species is widespread across temperate areas of the Australian mainland, and can be found in every mainland Australian state.
