About Selaginella involvens (Sw.) Spring

Taxonomic Classification

Selaginella tamariscina is a plant species belonging to the Selaginellaceae family.

Distribution Range

It is endemic to China, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Siberia (Russia), Taiwan, and northern Thailand.

Initial Publication

The species was first described by Palisot de Beauvois, possibly either in 1804 or 1805, under the name Stachygynandrum tamariscinum.

Genus Transfer

In 1843, Antoine Frédéric Spring transferred it to the genus Selaginella.

Growth Form

It is an evergreen perennial plant that grows to a height of 45 cm.

Medicinal Uses

It is commonly used as an herbal medicine, and has been used to treat gout and hyperuricemia.
