About Searsia leptodictya (Diels) T.S.Yi, A.J.Mill. & J.Wen
Searsia leptodictya (Diels) T.S.Yi, A.J.Mill. & J.Wen has three common names: mountain karee in English, bergkaree in Afrikaans, and mohlwehlwe in Sotho. This is an evergreen tree that grows to around 5 metres tall, with a canopy spread that also reaches roughly 5 metres. It is drought resistant, but only semi frost hardy. It is considered an attractive small tree, featuring a rounded crown and a gentle weeping growth habit. It can be grown successfully in locations that receive either full sun or partial shade. This tree produces small white flowers; on female trees, these flowers develop into clusters of small, berry-like fruits. These berries attract birds, which come to feed on the fruit. It is a good ornamental choice for small gardens, and the berries can be brewed to make beer.
