About Scoliopteryx libatrix Linnaeus, 1758
This species has a wingspan of approximately 44 millimeters. Its wings are broad. The forewing has an angled outer margin at the middle, and the margin is concave between this angle and the sharp, pointed apex. The forewing is grey mixed with ochreous, marked with dark fuscous fine lines, and has a rosy tint on its posterior half. The terminal sections of the forewing veins are whitish. An irregular median colored patch runs from the wing base to the middle of the wing, and is orange red more or less mixed with yellow. The inner and outer lines on the forewing are pale, with dark edges. There is a white spot at the base of the forewing on the median vein, and a single white dot stands in for the orbicular stigma. The reniform stigma is made up of two black dots. The hindwing is fuscous, and paler towards its base. A scarce dark morph, ab. suffusa Tutt, lacks the typical rosy tint in the terminal area of the forewing. The morph ab. pallidior Spul. encompasses paler specimens that appear whitish grey. The name pallida Spul. refers to paler, more yellowish specimens collected from Turkestan.
