About Sclerolepis uniflora (Walter) Britton, Sterns & Poggenb.

Sclerolepis is a genus of aquatic plant native to the eastern United States, with only one known species: Sclerolepis uniflora, commonly called the pink bogbutton. This species grows in ponds and other wet habitats. When water levels are high, it grows completely underwater, producing long stems and flaccid, elongated leaves, and does not produce flowers. When water levels drop, it changes form to resemble a typical terrestrial plant, growing an erect stem and flowering from summer to fall. Its flowers are pink. Sclerolepis uniflora is fairly common in the southeastern United States, ranging from Alabama and Florida to North Carolina, and has a sparser distribution as far north as New Hampshire.
