About Sciopithes obscurus Horn, 1876

Adults of Sciopithes obscurus are 6 to 8 millimetres (0.24 to 0.31 in) long. Their coloration is gray or brown, with a wavy line running across their back. They have a cylindrical body shape, a short snout, and elbowed antennae located near the tip of the snout, in front of the eyes. For their life cycle, females can lay up to one hundred eggs, placing the eggs either in folded leaves or in soil. This species produces one generation per year. After larvae hatch, they immediately crawl into the soil to start feeding on plant roots.
