About Schoenus compar L.
Schoenus compar, commonly called ivory veldrush, is a sedge species that is endemic to southern South Africa. This species is mostly found in southwestern South Africa; its range extends as far east as Humansdorp and as far north as the Cederberg mountains. Compared to other Southern African Schoenus species, S. compar grows at lower elevations, ranging from 20 meters to over 800 meters. It grows on coarser substrates such as sand or rocks, and it most often occurs on dry sites within fynbos vegetation.
