About Schizanthus pinnatus Ruiz & Pav.

Schizanthus pinnatus Ruiz & Pav. is an annual glandulous-pubescent plant that reaches 20 to 50 cm in height. It bears pinnatisect leaves 2.5 to 3 cm long; these leaves are split into 6 to 8 pairs of oblong-linear segments, which can be entire or separated. Its flowers are white, pink, or violet, measure 2 to 3 cm across, and grow in paniculate inflorescences that are sometimes dichotomous. The fruit it produces is a globular capsule, approximately 5 mm in length. Common names for this species include "small butterfly" ("mariposita") and "small, white butterfly" ("mariposita blanca").
