About Schistocerca melanocera (Stål, 1861)
The large painted locust, scientifically named Schistocerca melanocera, is a species of bird grasshopper. It is endemic to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, and is not found on Española Island. This species makes up a large portion of the diet of both the Galápagos hawk and lava lizards. It can reach a maximum body length of 8 cm.
