Schismus barbatus (L.) Thell. is a species of grass that goes by the common names common Mediterranean grass and kelch-grass. It is native to Eurasia, and is also recognized as an introduced species in the southwestern United States. It can grow in a wide range of habitats, including disturbed areas. This is an annual grass that forms small clumps. Its stems reach a maximum length of 27 centimeters, and are lined with threadlike leaves. It produces a short inflorescence that holds spikelets each under one centimeter long.
