About Schinia mitis Grote, 1873

Schinia mitis, commonly known as the matutinal flower moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species is distributed from central Florida northward to Georgia, and westward to eastern Texas. Adult moths are most commonly recorded on wing from April to June, though there are also verified records from September and November. Schinia mitis is a day-flying moth, and is only active for a few hours each morning, when the flowers of its host plant are open. The larvae of this species feed on plants from the genus Pyrrhopappus.
