In this range, it lives in coniferous forests, mixed forests, deciduous forests, and cultivated fields. Adult individuals of this species are brachypterous, gregarious, and nocturnal. This species occurs in multiple different color forms, including dark black and deep red. These distinct color morphs are associated with specific regions. S. angusticollis has been observed preying on snails, slugs, earthworms, and spiders.
