About Scaevola spinescens R.Br.

Scaevola spinescens R.Br., commonly called currant bush and maroon bush, is a shrub belonging to the Goodeniaceae family. This species occurs across all mainland Australian states and territories, growing in drier areas of the continent. It has additional regional common names: in the Northern Territory, it is known as spiny fanflower, prickly fanflower, and Incense bush; in New South Wales, its recorded common names are maroon bush, fan bush, and prickly fan flower. The species was first described in 1810 by Robert Brown, who gave it the formal name Scaevola spinescens. In south-west Western Australia, the Noongar people call this species Murin Murin, and prepare whole-plant decoctions to treat cancer, intestinal complaints, heart disease, and urinary and kidney complaints.
