About Scaevola nitida R.Br.
Scaevola nitida R.Br. is a spreading glabrous shrub that reaches up to 3 meters in height, and is sticky when young. Its leaves are stalkless, obovate to narrowly elliptic in shape, and toothed. Leaf blades measure 2 to 8.7 cm long and 7 to 40 mm wide. Flowers grow in terminal spikes that can be up to 6.5 cm long. The sepals are rim-shaped and 0.3 mm high. The corolla ranges in color from blue to lilac, measures 13 to 20 mm long, and is either pilose or glabrous on the outside, and bearded on the inside. The ovary is 2-locular. The fruit is grooved, cylindrical, smooth, and up to 4 mm long. This species occurs in the Esperance Plains, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren IBRA biogeographic regions. It grows on white or grey sand and clay, in habitats including coastal limestone cliffs and dunes.
