About Satyrium calanus (Hübner)
Satyrium calanus (Hübner), commonly known as the banded hairstreak, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This is a common hairstreak found east of the Rocky Mountains in North America. It is a territorial butterfly, and will challenge other butterflies that invade its territory. For its life cycle, eggs are laid individually on host plants and hatch in the spring. This species produces one single brood per year, with adults flying from early June to late August.
