About Sarcopoterium spinosum (L.) Spach
Sarcopoterium is a genus of flowering plants in the rose family. This genus is sometimes treated as synonymous with the genus Poterium. The only species in the Sarcopoterium genus is Sarcopoterium spinosum, which is common in the southeast Mediterranean region and the Middle East. In English, this species goes by the common names prickly burnet, spiny burnet, and thorny burnet. It is a perennial bush that produces small flowers arranged in inflorescences. Sarcopoterium spinosum flowers from February to April. Its fruits mature in autumn, then fall to the ground to germinate when rain water arrives. This species has spines, and during the hot summer months it becomes dry and appears dead.
