About Sarangesa phidyle (Walker, 1870)

Sarangesa phidyle (Walker, 1870), commonly called the orange flat or small elfin, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species is found in Botswana, south-western Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan. Within South Africa, it occurs from the Eastern Cape through Eswatini, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo Province, North West Province, and Gauteng. The wingspan of adult Sarangesa phidyle ranges from 26 to 38 mm. Adults can be seen in flight year-round, though they are less common during winter and the dry season. The larvae of this species feed on plant species from the genera Barleria and Peristrophe, including Peristrophe hensii.
