About Sanicula arctopoides Hook. & Arn.
Sanicula arctopoides Hook. & Arn. is a taprooted perennial herb that grows short, thick branches, which may be prostrate or slightly erect. It has yellowish-green leaves that are carrot-like or maple-shaped. Its tiny yellow flowers grow in umbels that have prominent bracts. This species forms low, matted patches along the ground, and its appearance resembles yellow "footsteps" against the soil. It grows as a perennial herb along the west coast of North America in the United States and Canada. Its range extends from the southern end of Vancouver Island and its adjacent islands in British Columbia, south to the central coast of California. Throughout its entire range, it grows in areas close to the ocean.
