About Sanguisorba canadensis L.

Sanguisorba canadensis, commonly known as white burnet or Canadian burnet, is a flowering plant species belonging to the rose family Rosaceae. It is native to North America. This herbaceous perennial grows widely in bogs, swamps, and roadsides across a range extending from Labrador to Georgia. It reaches a height of 1.2 to 1.5 meters (or four to five feet), and produces creamy white flowers arranged in cylindrical spikes that bloom from summer through to autumn. Unlike its close relatives, Sanguisorba officinalis (great burnet) and Sanguisorba minor (salad burnet), the leaves of this species must be cooked before eating to remove their natural bitterness.
