Salvia palifolia is a decumbent perennial herb. It is native to Colombia and western Venezuela, where it grows in grassland, cloud forest clearings, streamsides, and rocky outcrops at elevations ranging from 1,600 to 3,500 m (5,200 to 11,500 ft). Its green leaves measure 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 in) in length and are shaped either hastate or cordate. The plant's blue flowers are 5 to 6 mm (0.20 to 0.24 in) long.
