About Salvia nemorosa L.

Salvia nemorosa L. produces many inflorescences that hold closely spaced whorls of small flowers, which have brightly colored calyces. Numerous cultivars of this species are widely grown for horticultural purposes. Most of these cultivars are perennial, hardy to temperatures as low as –18 °C, and can be grown in USDA Hardiness Zones 4–8. Their flowers come in a range of colors including violet, violet-blue, rosy pink, and white. Early each summer, these plants produce numerous leafy stems that grow from the plant's base. This species grows best in full sun, with well-draining soil and moderate weekly watering.
