About Salvia mohavensis Greene

Salvia mohavensis, commonly called Mojave sage, is a species of sage that is endemic to the Mojave Desert. It grows as a low, rounded shrub reaching up to 1 meter in height. It bears small, opposite evergreen leaves that are 1.5 to 2 centimeters long; these leaves are dark green, but may look nearly gray from a covering of fine white hairs. Its flowers are 2 centimeters long, pale blue, and have protruding stamens. The flowers grow in headlike whorls, which appear singly at the tip of the stem. This species blooms from April through June.
