About Salvia hayatae Makino ex Hayata

Salvia hayatae (scientific name: Salvia hayatae Makino ex Hayata) is an annual herb native to the foothills of Taiwan. Its stems grow 20 to 45 cm (7.9 to 17.7 in) tall, and most of its leaves are basal. Its inflorescences are verticillasters that each hold 2 to 5 flowers; the verticillasters are widely spaced at the base of the inflorescence and crowded toward the top, arranged in terminal racemes or panicles. There are two recognized named varieties of this species. S. hayatae var. hayatae has 2-pinnately compound leaves, while S. hayatae var. pinnata has 1-pinnately compound leaves.
