About Salvertia convallariodora A.St.-Hil.
Salvertia is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the Vochysiaceae family. The single species in this genus is Salvertia convallariodora A.St.-Hil. This species is native to Suriname, Brazil, and Bolivia. The genus name Salvertia honors Augustin Amable Dutour de Salvert, also called Du Tour de Salvert Bellenave (1781–1838), a French botanist and writer. Dutour de Salvert was the brother-in-law of Augustin Saint-Hilaire, who first described this genus. The Latin specific epithet convallariodora means that the plant carries a fragrance similar to that of flowers from the genus Convallaria, with the suffix -odora meaning smelling. Both the genus Salvertia and the species Salvertia convallariodora were first described and published in 1820 in Mém. Mus. Hist. Nat. Volume 6, on page 266.
