Taxonomic Identity

Saltera sarcocolla (basionym Penaea sarcocolla) is a species of shrub, commonly known as Cape fellwort.

Distribution Range

This species is endemic to the Western Cape of South Africa, where its distribution ranges along the coast up to Cape Agulhas, and extends inland to Franschhoek, the Hottentots Holland Mountains, Villiersdorp, and Genadendal.

Etymology

Its specific epithet sarcocolla comes from its supposed resemblance to sarcocolla, the Asian source of Persian gum.
