Salsola kali L. is the restored botanical name for a species of flowering plant in the amaranth family, which has previously been classified as Kali turgidum. This species is native to Macaronesia, and ranges from the Atlantic coasts of Europe to the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean, though it has been introduced to other regions outside its native range. It is an annual plant that grows primarily in the temperate biome, specifically in salty sandy coastal soils. Its common names are prickly saltwort and prickly glasswort. In dry inland locations, Salsola kali is replaced by Salsola tragus, which also goes by the synonyms Kali tragus and Salsola kali subsp. tragus. This replacement species is less tolerant of salty soils, and has spread more widely from Eurasia to other continents. As an introduced species, Salsola kali is less widespread in America.
