About Salix laevigata Bebb

Salix laevigata Bebb, commonly called red willow or polished willow, is a willow species native to the southwestern United States and northern Baja California. Red willow grows along the coast of Baja California, and in California it extends north to Cape Mendocino. It grows east of the San Joaquin Valley in the lower elevation western foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and is not present in the Central Valley itself. Small populations of red willow also occur in Oregon, Nevada, and New Mexico. In Arizona, it is found in the central transition zone of the Mogollon Rim and in the central Grand Canyon. Its distribution also reaches the Virgin River canyon in southwestern Utah.
